Auto-Configure Your Email Client

Many users don't realize that cPanel offers a very easy way to transfer the settings required to set up your domain's email account within your chosen email client. This feature will automatically configure your email client to access your cPanel email address(es). An email client allows you to access your email account from an application on your computer. Outlook® Express and Apple® Mail are examples of email clients.

  1. Login to your cPanel.
  2. In the "Mail" section click the "Email Accounts" link (should be the first one in the Mail section, top left).
  3. From there you'll see a list of your email accounts. Every hosting account starts off with a postmaster@yourdomain.com and a spam@yourdomain.com. These are required, please do not delete them.
  4. Click on the "More" link to the right of the email account (email address) you want to set up, and from the drop-down list and choose the "Configure Email Client" link.

  5. Following the instructions on that page. Since the required settings vary depending on both the email client you use and the type of access you want, you'll need to choose from the list offered. At the bottom of the page there's also a list of the manual settings, if you'd prefer to input them into your email client manually.

Please see our FAQ: All The Ways To Access Your Email for a list of the different types of access we offer you to your email and a brief explaination of each type.

  6. Select and download the appropriate configuration file from the list. When you click on the appropriate link a file will be downloaded. Depending on what browser you use and how you have it's settings configured, you may need to authorize this file to be downloaded.
  7. Run the script file by double-clicking on it to automatically configure a mail client for the selected address.

When completed properly, your email client should open automatically and log into your email account(s).
