Parallels Power Panel

The Parallels Power Panels (formerly Virtuozzo Power Panel), or "PPP" is a powerful and easy-to-use web-based tool to administer and recover personal containers. With Parallels Power Panel, a user with administrative access to a container can easily perform many critical management tasks, while not requiring access rights to the server. Hello World Web offers this tool to its' VPS clients by default, but it can be turned off upon request (specifically when your server needs to be PCI Compliant, for hosting an eCommerce website).

Important Note:

  • The PPP offers few - if any - services and options that most customers will need or use.
  • The PPP is an addition to - and not a substitute for - your primary control panel.
  • Most of these options are also available on the primary control panel for the server, especially if you use cPanel/WHM as your control panel.
  • The only real benefit to using the PPP is the ability to reboot the VPS on command, something that should rarely if ever need to be done.

The PPP can be accessed securely over the web via the primary IP of the server, on port 4643. In order to log in, submit the username 'root' and the root password of your server.  This is the same password you use to login via SSH as root, or login to the WHM interface (cPanel software only). Specific login instructions are included in your "Welcome" email when your server was first provisioned.

Special Warnings

There are a few options that should not be used or relied upon within the Parallels Power Panel, as they are not fully compatible with our product.  Parallels has not yet made it possible for us to remove these options from the PPP interface platform-wide. They include the following:

  • The backup/restore functionality within the PPP is not functional as our nightly backup system operates independently from Virtuozzo.
  • Options to "repair" or "re-install" a container are not compatible with our template structure, and can cause serious problems if implemented.
  • The option to "install Plesk" should never be used on any product. On our most basic non-control panel container, Plesk will not install properly without licensing. Even if the software does install, it will be installed outside of the our templating software and can cause serious problems down the road.  Selecting this option can be catastrophic on a server running cPanel/WHM.
  • Since the Parallels Power Panel was only intended to be fully compatible with specific operating systems and control panels, it cannot properly detect or monitor certain services on cPanel servers.  For this reason, the PPP will often claim Apache or other daemons are down, when they are in fact fully functional.
  • Care should be taken when using the Firewall option within the PPP. It is very easy to revoke access to aspects of the server (cPanel ports, extra services, etc) when using this option, and these problems often go unnoticed until a later date.  The PPP firewall should not be used in conjunction with CSF or other firewall software, as it will often conflict and cause inconsistencies in traffic to and from the server.
